Parting the fog?

I have chosen my title as this blog’s foundation for one reason: this blog will be personally challenging for me.   The reasons are as follows:

1.)  If you have not noticed from the few sentences I have already posted, I write fairly stoic, wooden, and for all intents and purposes: unpersonal.  Believe it or not, I am conciously trying to be shy away from an academic tone in this blog, but such a tone is engrained deeply. Strangely enough, I delight in writing and reading convoluted, stark language, and therefore will not see myself abandoning it anytime soon in the future. However, I understand the nature of blogs (more so from Diane’s articles we were required to read).  I understand  the neccessity that blogs be simple.   But for everyone who wonders: is this gfhurley’s natural writing style?  The answer is: yes.  Come to my house and read my personal journals, notes, and philosophies: this is my natural writing voice.  From the Rowan writing program, I have come to understand that simple writing is better: easier to read, easier to follow, and easier to market.  I can write simply: it takes more effort – and the voice is not my authentic voice.

2.)  Difficulty also lies in topic choice.  What do I write about on a blog?  How do I form this into a collective vision?  I know that I must let go: release myself from the grip of seriousness and have a little fun.  I will try to have fun; however, I have fun through the seriousness of rationality and mental debate .  I will attempt to loosen up and adapt to the blogging community.

3.)  Bias.  There is a face to my audience, namely the class and Bill Wolff.  How does that convolute the situation?  I feel the need to be objective, shy away from taboos, and shun potential judgment.  I am actually an extremely open person; I do not feel uncomfortable talking about any subject (actually, I feel that our culture needs to talk more about subjects such as death, sex, and fear), therefore I will attempt to be as open as possible on this blog with having the utmost respect for the professor and fellow classmates.

I do have an artistic side.  I love to write lyrics and singI love to write and play music.  I love to write fiction (although my fictional voice is far more simple.  Odd.).   So I will attempt to tap into that artistic sphere with this blog.

  1. i think blogs are all about honesty, whether in tone, what you actually say, or the means you use to express your thoughts.

if you dont think so hard, within a couple of days or weeks you might find what it is your blog needs to be.

    :)

I hope you’re finding your way through this medium. I wanted to assure you that I understand your hesitencies and, with consideration to how popular I know blogs to be, I was relieved to read someone else is struggling with the concept of voice and topic within these forums we’re facilitating.

I consider myself more of an introvert, but I encourage you to follow those attempts at openness, as will I, and see what we can discover along the way–about ourselves and others within this electronic community!
